Let’s take a look at some of the fragrances for well-being which give us the feel-good factor

Vanilla

First on the list is an absolute classic and one we have often talked about here at Carvansons. This tasty but light fragrance comes from the vanilla comes from the pods and conjures up memories of ice creams and baking. These feel-good and homely memories are a great calming influence on the soul. But Vanilla also has a reputation as a bit of an aphrodisiac and as a result, is often one of the key scents highlighted in ‘sexy’ and indulgent fragrances.

Although you will have heard about rosemary from a culinary perspective you may not have considered it from a fragrance perspective. Rosemary is often highlighted for its suggested energising and relaxing effects. Decleor products are a big fan of Rosemary scents and this one is one of favourites.

Lemon

While citrus is more well-known for increasing alertness and energy, it can also help you calm down after a hard day. Lemon notes are best when paired with other scents on this list to add a note of brightness and alleviate some fragrances that may be too rich or sweet on their own.

Jasmine

A sweet but rich floral scent, Jasmine is regularly found in high-end perfumery and we continue to see more and more perfumes coming through highlighting Jasmine as a popular fragrance. Often found in feminine and delicate perfumes this scent is starting to regularly be seen in other formats such as soaps, body washes and candles. It’s great for those tiring and stressful days and can help soothe tension and create feelings of relaxation. Jasmine, although not scientifically tested, is often associated believed to have anti-depressant qualities.

Lavender

Wellbeing and Lavender are inseparable. Lavender regularly features as one of the top searches relating to relaxation and sleep aid. It can help release tension, calm and soothe and help you unwind. This distinctive fragrance is found regularly in room fragrancing and air care products, specifically with the aim of improving sleep. Sleep mists, pulse point applications and balms are often heavily associated with this relaxing fragrance.

Clary Sage

Clary sage is the more colourful, flowering cousin of the common cooking herb. This flowering herb is growing in popularity. Extracted from the leaves and buds, the essential oil has a clean, refreshing scent that you can use as a skin balm or gently inhale as part of an aromatherapy treatment.

Ylang Ylang

While you might not be familiar with the name of this plant, you’ve probably smelled it before. It’s a fairly common ingredient in candles, perfumes, lotions and soaps. Ylang-ylang has a heavy, sweet smell, sometimes with notes of fruits and rubber. Sweet Marjoram

Sweet marjoram creates a warm, woody scent that is soothing but not overpowering for gentle herbal aromatherapy. The aroma of Marjoram Sweet Essential Oil is herbal warm, sweet and slightly spicy with camphoraceous undertones.

Vetiver

For those not in the know, Vetiver is a plant and the root is used to make medicine. People may use vetiver for nerve and circulation problems and for stomach pain. Vetiver smells dry, earthy, woody, leathery and smoky, which is why it’s often used in candles that have a heavier, musky scent. The smell of vetiver will transport you to lying on the lawn during a warm summer day—and what’s not relaxing about that?

In a recent study, it was found that scent affects mood, concentration, memory recall and emotion. In fact, 75% of all emotions generated every day are due to smell, and because of this, we are 100 times more likely to remember something we smell compared with something we see, hear or touch.

Furthermore, scent triggers reactions in the body’s limbic system, the part of the brain involved in our behavioural and emotional responses. In the limbic system, we process feelings, moods, emotions and memory. As a result, we are seeing a definite ground surge towards functional fragrances that not only smell good but also do us good.
