Boozy Fragrances and Alcoholic Notes

2025 has been dominated by gourmand and vanilla notes again. There appears to be a new vanilla-loaded fragrance launch every day currently. We noted this as we did our weekly smelling session. Over 20% of the fragrances we reviewed this month had a vanilla leaning. Although this isn’t surprising ( see our previous post about Vanilla and how we are using vanilla fragrances as a replacement for sugary sweet treats and as mood mood-boosting dopamine hit). What is noteable, however, is how many of these vanilla scents are targeting the female market.

But don’t fear fellas, there is gourmand equivalent, and you guessed it, it’s Boozy.

Masculine Fragrances with Alcoholic Notes

Whereas feminine gourmands lean into vanilla, caramel and candy-coated comfort, the masculine side of the gourmand trend leans heavily into scents with alcoholic notes and boozy accords. Think rum, whiskey, cognac, absinthe—for depth, warmth, and edge. These scents are indulgent, addictive, but less dessert-like and more sophisticated luxury.

These alcoholic notes have featured prominently in new fragrance releases recently, adding a rich, indulgent dimension to many scents.

What do Boozy Fragrances Smell Like?

Think sweet, golden but with a slight edge.

Boozy fine fragrances tap into a world of luxury and indulgence, with notes like whiskey, cognac, rum and absinthe evoking a refined warmth and opulence. These accords carry connotations of craftsmanship and conjure imagery of heritage-rich spaces: smoky lounges, leather chairs and old libraries.

According to the Fragrantica database, as of August 2025, 29 new perfume launches included whiskey notes, 119 featured rum and 35 incorporated cognac. The rise of alcoholic fragrances feels like the male / unisex answer to the sugary-sweet gourmand wave

Both the Vanilla and the Bozzy trend both share some similarities though, sensory escapism, mood boosting and addictive scents.
